About 25 American Coaster Enthusiasts from the South Central Region showed up for SeaWorld San Antonio’s Media Day on Friday. At the end of the day, I think that someone said he had ridden it 48 times! Others weren’t too far behind. I was amazed by their energy and enthusiasm. Also, in this photo a few lucky guests were recruited from the plaza to take a first ride on Journey to Atlantis. Sometimes you are just in the right place at the right time. Other guests got their chance to ride when the park opened the ride around 4 p.m. for a soft opening. But the action is really today when Journey to Atlantis is open to the public. If you got to ride, let us know what you think.

Finally…today is the day that we debut SeaWorld San Antonio’s newest ride, Journey to Atlantis, to the media. However, last night we unveiled the ride for a more important audience. SeaWorld San Antonio held a preview party for our park team and their families. Around 2,000 people attended.Even though it threatened to rain, as you will see in the video, some brave souls rode Journey to Atlantis anyway and had a blast. In addition to our star team, SeaWorld SA also has a resident celebrity on staff that narrated as he rode Journey to Atlantis last night. In addition to his duties as a SeaWorld whale trainer, Chuck Cureau is also the host of Trading Spaces: Boys and Girls. Here’s hoping your hair doesn’t get too wet Chuck.

Journey to Atlantis Promotional Fence Detail

Does that sound like an oxymoron to you? At SeaWorld San Antonio we take conservation of our natural resources very seriously. Even in the construction of Journey to Atlantis, we made sure that conservation of water and materials was a high priority.

Journey to Atlantis Conservation Features:

  • The pools at Journey to Atlantis contain 400,000 gallons of water, which is completely cleaned and recycled every 4 hours.
  • Landscapers planted ten palm trees, 2,500 perennials and shrubs, 3,200 annuals and 95 trees in the Journey to Atlantis ride area. They also used 300 yards of mulch to keep the plants moist and conserve water use in the hot summer months.
  • The Park Operations team bought 26 trash cans, 20 benches and 9 tables for the Journey to Atlantis plaza area. They feature blue and green recycled glass in their pre-cast concrete forms.

More in a future post about how you can save energy and water at home. Do you have any suggestions of how to save money and energy at home? See more fun facts on our Ride Details page.
