For the past 15 years Sea World San Antonio Ski Lake has been the home for “All Can Ski” – a three-day event hosted by the non-profit organization - San Antonio Sports - where children and adults with disabilities can experience the thrills of water skiing.
The event is held annually in late August. Each participant signs up for a four-hour session on the water. (This year the cost was $35.00 for the session). The first day is reserved for children, the second for the military and the third day is open for all.
Volunteers from all over the community – many with the San Antonio Fire Department - donate their time and energy to make this event happen. The water skis have been adapted to meet the needs of all participants. They were created and provided by Texas Adaptive Aquatics.
World Entertainment Services – talent provider for Sea World San Antonio’s water ski show “Cool Vibrations” donated the boat drivers and skiers for the event. I asked Jessica DePorter – Manager of the WES ski team – what was her favorite part of the event. She said the biggest thrill was watching the participants overcome their doubts, putting on a life jacket, strapping on the adaptive water skis, getting in the water and sharing the joy and excitement of water skiing!
