Did you know the Endangered Species Act is considered by most to be the strongest piece of conservation legislation in the world? Did you know that if you crash in the wilderness from a chartered plane, experts recommend you stay at the crash site? Did you know you can see a coelecanth and a giant squid at the Smithsonian Museum?
You see the animals perform blackflips in shows. You see us working with the animals in the water. You can even come and get in the water for an interaction program and watch us shape new behaviors. All of these are amazing parts of the job (and I do love my job!), but my favorite part is what we call "relates." "Relates" require no whistles, no prompts or assistant and no bucket of fish. We just simply hang out with animals, in and out of the water.

Ah, the sounds of Summer at SeaWorld San Antonio - the energetic music of Shamu Rocks!, the giggling of children frolicking around Sesame Street Bay of Play, and the pitter patter of….little webbed feet!
Over the past several months an incredible number of ducklings, goslings and other chicks have hatched at SeaWorld San Antonio, including Red-Crested Pochards, North American Ruddy Ducks, Mandarin Ducks, Hooded Mergansers, Cinnamon Teal, Scarlet Ibis and Roseate Spoonbill. Some species, like the Hawaiian NeNe Goose, are endangered.
Ever wonder how SeaWorld animal trainers teach an animal to do the amazing behaviors that you see in shows? Your search for knowledge is over! This is the first in a series of vlogs hosted by the Animal Training team at the Beluga Stadium designed to give you an inside glimpse as to how we train animals. The first behavior to be demonstrated… teaching a two year old beluga whale named Atla how to do a jump, which we call a bow. Check back every few weeks to see her progress.
Last Friday, SeaWorld's resident penguin stars, Pete and Penny, made an appearance on the ice at the AT&T Center for the San Antonio Rampage game. Pete and Penny represented this SeaWorld-sponsored game.
Last week we showed you some pictures of our newest member of the SeaWorld family, and asked if you could identify him. You all certainly know your baby animals - the vast majority of guesses were correct, identifying the chick as a penguin. But the last time I checked only two individuals, Bethany and Amanda, even got the species - king penguin!
