Ever wonder how SeaWorld animal trainers teach an animal to do the amazing behaviors that you see in shows? Your search for knowledge is over! This is the first in a series of vlogs hosted by the Animal Training team at the Beluga Stadium designed to give you an inside glimpse as to how we train animals. The first behavior to be demonstrated… teaching a two year old beluga whale named Atla how to do a jump, which we call a bow. Check back every few weeks to see her progress.

Animal Athletes at SeaWorld
We’re gearing up for the 2nd annual Run for the Fund, and all this talk about physical fitness and ability got us thinking about some of the incredible athletic adaptations animals have that help them compete in the everyday “game” of survival. They rely on these adaptations to help them find food, reproduce, move, and communicate with other animals.
Run for the Fund... Don't Sweat It!
SeaWorld San Antonio’s 2nd Annual Run for the Fund is almost here and the final preparations are in place! I’ve already told you about our

Sea Lions Cheer On Run for the Fund Participants
Ever been cheered on by a sea lion? Trainers at Sea Lion stadium have been working hard with their sea lion friends to make this vision a reality!
For the past year, trainer Lisa Halstead, has been busy with other trainers teaching sea lions to walk behind Sea Lion stadium and greet passers-by on the path. Great news for us, because this means that our sea lion friends will wave and “roar” as
Behind the Scenes: Sharks at SeaWorld San Antonio
Here in the Education and Conservation Department at SeaWorld San Antonio, we love sharks an awful lot. We enjoy talking about all of the animals, but any time the subject of sharks comes up, we get really excited. There is just so much to say!

Ever wonder what the view is like from underwater?
Most people think of dolphins and whales when SeaWorld comes to mind. Who doesn’t love touching the smooth skin of a bottlenose dolphin or seeing a killer whale drench the first 15 rows of Shamu Stadium? Don’t get me wrong … I love dolphins and whales, but I have tons of fun everyday hanging out with Clyde & Seamore so I think everyone should love them just as much as I do!
Completing the Camp Circle
I’ve written about former campers and where they are now, whether it is up at Shamu stadium as a trainer or working with sea lions or in the Florida Keys on a lobster boat, but this story may be the best yet. A few weeks ago, one of SeaWorld San Antonio’s first campers brought her own family back to camp. Julie was a part of our first day camp group in 1992 and part of the first resident camp in 1994. She then came back as a camp counselor in 1996 & 1997, the years that I was a camper.
