Chuck Cureau and beluga whale friend.Ok. I'll admit that this is my first official blog and I'm a bit nervous about it. Will SeaWorld guests even care about what I have to say? What should I talk about? Will it be interesting? Wait a minute... Of course it will! It's SeaWorld San Antonio and I have one of the coolest jobs in the world. I'M A WHALE AND DOLPHIN TRAINER!!
Eight beluga whales and seven Pacific whitesided dolphins call SeaWorld San Antonio their home. For 20 years I've had the honor of caring for them, teaching them, playing with them, and loving them. Not a bad way to spend half my life. Probably the biggest rush I get is when I enter their environment... the water. The moment I dive in I feel exhilarated! It's not just the 58 degree water that does it (although it does at times take my breath away). But when Sikku (the smartest and my favorite beluga whale), or Betty (the most "chill" Pacific whitesided dolphin ever), swim up to me, I forget about the cold water and feel overwhelmed and blessed to come face to face with such a fantastic creature. One that likes me to scratch her tongue. One that seems to enjoy a game of " lag tag". One that doesn't care that I'm bald and skinny. What a rush! Not a bad way to spend the past two decades.
Wish I could accurately put into words what it feels like to get into the water with these awesome animals, but after numerous re-writes of this blog I just can't seem to do it justice. You just gotta experience it for yourself. And you can! Wanna know how? Ask me. Go ahead... Ask me!
Continued success and blessings to you and yours,
Chuck
