As a new PR Representative for SeaWorld San Antonio, I had the opportunity to attend the Austin media tour this past week. The purpose of this media tour was to promote SeaWorld San Antonio's Howl-O-Scream attractions and especially College Nights. It was my first business trip, let alone media tour, so I was not sure what to expect. To sum it up, it was one of the best learning experiences I have ever had. Our marketing efforts proved to be successful in generating the type of buzz we were looking for with just the right audience: college students!
All of you Texas folks are probably doing the math here, "College Kids + Austin = 6th St.?" Yes, we did visit the notorious 6th Street and brought our resident party pumpkin along with us to do the dirty work. We "partied" it up Jack O' Lantern-style, while distributing information for our college night offer (get 4 tickets for $80 upon showing a college ID every Friday in October after 4 p.m.), and various promotional items and giveaways.
While in Austin, Jack made his appearance at three local news stations, KVUE (ABC) midday program; KEYE (CBS) afternoon program; and KTBC (FOX) morning program. Jack had this hesitant KVUE news anchor chuckling nervously.
Aside from media appearances, Jack and his crew (“The Jack Pack”) spent their time on the UT and ACC Rio Grande campuses, as well as coupon blitzing “The Drag.”
We didn't only visit Austin, however. The Jack Pack distributed marketing material in San Marcos and various college hang-out spots in the area.
Everywhere we went, Jack was sure to stir up mischief. He had fun mingling with some tweeps at Frank's Rec. Room downtown Austin.
Jack had many fans. He tore up the dance floor at a swing dancing club in West Campus, where a talented pal crafted a mini-Jack out of balloons!
While our mornings consisted of media appearances, our afternoons and late evenings were spent spreading the word about Howl-O-Scream in some of the hottest spots in party city. Jack certainly fit right in and did his job in keeping Austin weird. It is a great pleasure to be a member of the Jack Pack. I never thought a job could be this fun!
