Park is Closed… No Doze!

Many people often ask me what happens when the park closes. Does it slow down? Do you have less work to do? The answer always surprises them. When the park closed, it is one of the busiest times of the year! Entertainment is rapidly tearing down old themes and replacing with the new look for next year.

General Services is working on major projects that had to be put on hold during operations. Finance is busy closing the year and prepping for taxes. Landscaping is busy clearing areas, laying out new landscaped areas and battling the leaves.

Human Resources is working on the hiring, on-boarding process, and training of new and returning team members. Our operating departments like Operations, Merchandise and Culinary are busy training new team members, cleaning, maintaining inventory and making sure we are ready for opening day.

Everyone in the park is counting down to the next day that we are open. But some things in the park remain consistent. Our Zoological team is continuing to help maintain the health of our animals with the help of our Laboratory team. Our Water Quality team is continuing to help maintain our water systems throughout the park especially those exhibits that are temperature controlled. Everyone is working on creating the files that will house this year’s information and records.

Construction is rapid on the Aquatica project. Equipment is being replaced in one of our large buildings. The floor is getting changed in a gift shop. Annual inspections of equipment and rides are underway.

In all of this, we still have some special events, camps and some behind the scenes tours. This is the time of the year that the park undergoes a face lift daily. Anyone can take a walk through the park and see the many changes occurring almost overnight.

2012 holds new and exciting developments in our park and in our company. We cannot wait to share the fun and laughter with you again. In the meantime…
